It’s officially the age of self-love, self-care, and taking care of yourself.
Or, as I like to call it… self-romancing.
The benefits of practicing this beautiful new healthy habit are undeniable.
Self-romancing will help you thrive, shine, and be the best damn self that you can possibly be.
I hope that everyone reading this has found their own self-romancing thing.
Maybe your thing is cooking, or knitting, or getting sweaty with yoga…
And if that’s the case, here are my favorite tips for creating a yoga space at home for your ultimate peace and relaxation!

Today I want to share with you my favorite ways of creating a simple, peaceful yoga space at home.
A space for ultimate relaxation and comfort. A space where taking care of yourself and practicing yoga makes your heart happy.
These are the things that I use in my own home practice to make my yoga sessions part of my self-care/self-romancing routine.
1 | Declutter your space
Gotta start with the basics, you know?
Declutter your space from anything that doesn’t serve your practice.
Your space has to be safe, clean, and clear of any clutter over anything else.
2 | Create a yoga playlist for your home yoga practice
Or just play your favorite album!
Music and movement are something that run through your veins.
It’s how you were built. It’s what made us who we are today.
Movement and music combined have brought us together ever since the ancient times of our beginning. It’s something that’s allowed us to feel free — happy, alive, safe, at peace.
You might remember from the Sanskrit post that the literal meaning of yoga is unity.
To me, it seems like the perfect way to honor the practice of yoga, the movement, with music.
Of course, if you feel more comfortable practicing in silence, you do you!
3 | Add calming, subtle sources of light to your yoga space
Since we’re talking about romance… You know that lighting is a key element to building the right atmosphere. It’s also super affordable!
I like to practice in the darkness with candles or fairy lights sprinkled on the surroundings of my space. There’s something calming practicing in a space with only a few flickering lights. Just add the sound of rain to that and it’s like heaven!
Make your practice your own. It’s your time. It’s your you-time!
4 | Bring safety to your yoga space with a yoga mat you can trust
This is me being practical instead of doing the whole self-romancing thing. But sometimes a girl’s gotta follow her head instead of her heart! And who said that safety isn’t romantic?
I can pinpoint with complete clarity the time when my yoga practice was transformed for the better.
That’s when I finally decided I’m ready for the commitment, made a very adult decision, and purchased a real yoga mat. No more falling on my face!
If you’re at the place where you’re finally ready to invest in your practice (or if you’re tired of falling on your face!), check out the Jade Yoga mats. They love the Earth and plant a tree for every purchase!
5 | Fill your yoga space with soft, fluffy things
Talking about falling on your face… Pillows! Get some pillows!
Soften up your space with the fluffy goodness of pillows and blankets.
They’re great for practicing any inversions or arm balances.
Are you really into Yin yoga and deep stretching? Pillows! Blankets!
They’re also wonderful if you just want to get extra comfy for Savasana.
Maybe take a little nap. Nobody’s judging you. Go for it.
6 | Combine yoga with essential oils for extra calm
You don’t have to believe in the supposed magical powers of essential oils.
But when you’re feeling stressed out, anxious, or unable to sleep… What do you have to lose?
What if a couple of drops of lavender combined with yoga actually knocks you out?
What if you finally get a peaceful night of sleep?
You can use the essential oils in a diffuser or apply a couple of drops on your wrists. Make sure you read the directions first and that the oil is safe to use topically!
7 | Throw in some additional elements to inspire you
- Calming prints or pictures
- Refreshing green plants to clear your mind and bring the nature closer to you (If you love both candles and plants, check out these succulent candles cause they are adorable!)
- Ornaments or decorative elements that bring you peace or comfort
- You can also add in a small bookshelf for books about yoga or meditation
Romance yourself by creating a peaceful yoga space at home
My idea of a perfect me-date?
Okay, it’s late October, there’s a chill in the air and I come home from the fresh autumn night. I put on my Norah Jones, slip into something comfortable (…yoga pants), light a couple of candles, breathe in some delicious whiffs of lavender or bergamot, and get my yoga on.
The world disappears. I curse a little. I sweat a lot. Yell at the instructor on my screen. I still can’t do the full camel pose. I hate yoga. No, I love yoga and this is the best thing I’ve ever done and wow I’m so strong and I feel so damn good.
Free. At peace. Unsullied by the worries that overtake my conscience as soon as this moment is over.
I hope you found some inspiration in this post so that you can create your own yoga space at home!
