Today we’re going to prepare you for the best decade of your life. So let’s talk about how to release 2019 with grace and purpose and make space for magic in the coming year and decade.
As I’m writing this to you, 2020 is only weeks away.
You know, the year when you’ll finally make all your desires come to life.
For real, this time.
Because you know it’s time.
Because you know you’re ready now.
Because you know, in your heart and bones and soul…
That you’re worthy.
But in order to really jump into this new decade with full hearts and excitement fluttering in our bellies, we need to say goodbye.
And sometimes that hurts. It can be a bit of a process.
To help you close this chapter with grace, I wanted to share with you the process I’ll be working through in the coming days and weeks.
We will say goodbye to both 2019 and the decade that’s coming to an end.
I hope this serves you greatly.
How to release 2019 with grace and purpose
Like always, I recommend that you set up a calm, soothing, comforting and safe space for yourself before you do any sort of deep reflecting, journaling, and inner work.
So light some candles, put some tunes on, and whip out your journal.
Dig into the prompts I offer and and work through with them intentionally. At your own pace, with your own rules, tuning into what feels right for you.
It might take you just one session or a few, so honor this process and take the time you need to close this chapter with intention and purpose.
Releasing 2019 with grace
As you’ve set up your space, and prepared your state of mind with meditation and a few deep breaths, journal on the following:
1. What did you experience in 2019? These could be big goals or achievements, life experiences, or simply lessons learnt, something you discovered about yourself. How did you grow spiritually? What did you release? What new beliefs and ways of being did you integrate into your life, and how did that serve you?
2. What are you most grateful for? What brought joy and fulfillment, or a moment of deep peace into your life? What did you succeed at? Who were the people you loved spending time with? What was GOOD in 2019?
3. What didn’t work out for you this year? What was disappointing to you? Are there people, habits, beliefs, or ways of being and doing that you’re willing to release now? Remember that we release what doesn’t serve us just so we can make space for something so much better in 2020 and beyond.
4. What did you discover about yourself? What are you most proud of? What was the most impactful lesson that you learned? See your growth through the eyes of love, acceptance, and kindness.
5. What are you committed to doing differently in 2020? What will be the 1-3 most important areas of focus for you? What would contribute the most to your overall wellness and happiness? This is not the time to write out all of your goals for 2020. We’ll focus on that in the next few posts!
Saying goodbye to the decade
1. Do the same practice as before: think of the past decade of your life, and make a list of the things you experienced. Good and bad.
2. Look at it. Everything you’ve been through. Go through each thing that you wrote in Step 1, and write out
»» why you’re grateful that it occurred, and
»» who/what you need to forgive or accept. It has happened, you can’t change it, and holding onto it won’t give you much. It’s time to release it and make space now. You are ready.
If this part of the practice feels impossible (We all go through trauma and painful moments in our lives, and sometimes forgiveness isn’t available to us. That’s okay.):
»» Can you acknowledge that it has happened?
»» Can you choose to be willing to fully move onto the other side of it?
»» Can you be willing to close the chapter? Can you allow this hurtful thing be something of the past? Can you let it fade, and not give it the power to MEAN anything about you and your capability to welcome in all the beauty and magic that’s about to flood into your life in the next decade?
3. Can you see an overarching theme around what has occurred in your life in the past decade? Look at what occurred from a new point of view: Did all this lead to your growth in a certain area? Did you learn something about yourself? Did all this lead you to a change of some sort? Is it possible that this all has allowed you to grow, expand, and become the person you are right now?
Do your best to be aware of any resentment, anger, regret, shame, guilt, and fear that comes up for you. Releasing the past is a practice and a process, but your willingness is what matters the most. Are you willing to forgive and accept what has happened?
Remember that you are never alone. You can always ask for guidance from your higher power to see it differently, release it, and use it for your good.
5. If it feels good to you, you can safely burn your paper, bury it, or rip it and trash it. Let it go.
I hope this practice brings you to a graceful closure and guides you in closing this chapter of your life.
No matter what has happened in your past…
You didn’t come this far only to come this far.
You are going to light up the world in 2020 and beyond.
You can. You’re worthy. You are good enough.
I believe in you so deeply.
I hope you do too.
